Essay

Object: The Ukrainian political life in Galicia in the early twentieth century. Purpose: To clarify the topic of relationships Ukrainian political movement with the Greek-Catholic Church in Galicia in the early twentieth century. Methods: historiographical analysis, synthesis, system-structural approach, logical, historical, situational, descriptive, comparative. Results: The first in complex the interaction of the Church and society in early twentieth-century Galicia is considered, not only in the context of modernization factors, but also through the prism of internal church discussions on civilizational orientation between the "Westerners" and the "Easterners", topics of "rebirth of Eastern traditions", the calendar reform, the introduction of celibacy, debate on autocephalous Greek Catholic Church considered as part of a complex policy for the approval of a specific system for identifying, searching for its place in the civilized space of Eastern Europe, an example of which was Velegradski Congresses (and later Congresses in Pinsk and Uniate Congress in Lviv), designed to make the Ukrainian Greek Catholics the main promoters of the idea of the spread of Catholicism in the East, as well as the union of the Slavic world. Scope of application: for general publications and textbooks, scientific manuals, as well as in teaching practice.
