Essay

The dissertation represents a complex structural, semantic and ideographic analysis of the phraseological units denoting alcohol using in the German, English and Ukrainian languages. Phraseo-semantic fields, synonymic rows and structural-semantic models of the units reflecting the degree of a person’s intoxication in different linguistic cultures are described. The cultural and semantic reconstruction of the inner form of the phraseological units containing the alcohol component in the meaning within the sources of origin, functioning, behaviour and other stereotypes, their belonging to the spatial and locative, temporal, object codes is performed. Based upon modern comparative ethnolinguistic methods (with the elements of the component and distributional analyses), the typology of the image definers as well as the means of expression of the evaluative meaning of persons, objects, artifacts (similes, metaphors etc), which are necessary for revealing the ways of conceptualization of the sphere of alcohol, are established.
