Object - professional and legal preparation of students of higher technical educational establishments. Purpose - to ground scientifically and approve effectiveness of pedagogical terms of formation of legal competence of future engineers in the process of the special preparation. Methods - theretical, empirical, statistical. Theoretical results and novelty - the pedagogical terms of formation of legal competence of future engineers in the process of the special preparation, components (motivational and axiological, substantial, pragmatist), criteria and indexes of their formation have been determined; the levels (high, middle, low) of formation of legal competence of future engineers have been described; the experimental model of formation of legal competence of future engineers have been worked out; the essence and structure of concept 'legal competence' have been defined; the concepts 'professional competence of future engineers', 'legal consciousness of future engineers' have been specified. Practical results - the methodology of diagnostics of the levels of formation of legal competence of future engineers and methodical tools have been worked out; the educational course 'Legal science' has been renewed; legal constituents in the humanitarian cycle of professional preparation of students have been introduced. Efficiency of introduction is high. Branch - pedagogical, higher educational establishments.
