Essay

In the thesis the development of the system of professional education and training in Belgium in the age of creating European higher education area is researched. The novelty lies in detailed analysis of the stages of its progressing and restructuring at different levels, namely, initial vocational education and training level, non-university higher professional education and training level, academic education level. Major historic prerequisites for the formation of the modern system of professional education and training and its basic principles are defined, taking into consideration the presence of the Flemish, French speaking and German speaking communities in Belgium.
