Object: winter wheat varieties and lines contrast on seed germination intensity under soil moisture deficit. Aim: to study the conformity of variability of seed germination intensity under soil moisture deficit of winter wheat varieties and lines made out the method of improvement this property. Methods: laboratory, field, laboratory- field, phenological investigations, statistic. Novelty: the conformities of manifestation of variability of germination intensity of different winter wheat varieties and lines underneath on hydro-thermal conditions of soil and air have been improved. The dominant character of inheritance of seed germination intensity on hybrids on soil scanty moisture have been established. The efficient of select of descendant by seed germination intensity for keep of variety typical in seed plot have been proved. Results: It was shown that studied cultivars differed significantly on seed germination intensity under soil moisture deficit (13-14% of moisture). Decrease of air temperature after sowing (to +5°C) caused some leveling of moisture deficit reaction. Seed germination ability of cultivars was constantly independent on the environment of their planting and harvest dates. Differences between cultivars were irrespective of seed size, particularly thickness. Application stage: the practical recommendations for use on seed production, seed afterharvesting improvement and winter wheat breeding. Application area: SIE of NAAN, MinAPK of Ukraine
