Essay

The thesis deals with realization of gender category in the form of concepts WOMAN and MAN in the translations of fiction texts. Owing to conceptual analysis, gender is studied as a part of gender hierarchy created by typical and untypical feminine and masculine characters and a gender paradigm of a fiction text. The study investigates peculiarities of gender components verbalization and defines the semiotic means of their realization in source and target texts. The thesis highlights the degree of the translator's visibility in the target text and compares main changes caused by the gender component of a linguistic personality of female and male translators. Results achieved prove the necessity of studying the gender category in a literary text in an integrated manner through analyzing gender paradigm and hierarchy. It will help avoid translators' visibility in the target text and preserve the conceptual information of the original.
