The dissertation is dedicated to social and philosophical study of the interconnection of patriotism and national idea. The structure and function of patriotism and the national idea as the phenomena of social life are revealed. The new criteria for classification of patriotism are generalized and proposed, different types of expression of this phenomenon are analyzed according to them. The peculiarities of the interconnection of patriotism and the national idea at the various stages of formation of the Ukrainian state are investigated. The logic of the interconnection of patriotism and the national idea at the stage of formation and further development of the state is substantiated. The determinants of optimization of the interconnection of patriotism and the national idea at the present stage of development of Ukrainian society are offered.
