Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of the formation process and functioning of the MASSR in the form of the Soviet Ukraine in 1924-1940 years. The paper has examined internal and foreign political factors, causes and motives for creation of the Moldavian autonomy, concession of the specific state and national status for it taking into consideration the policy of «korenization» (meaning «nativization» or «indigenization»), which the USSR was carrying out at that time. The fixed conceptions about the autonomy as the best way to realize the ethnic interests and aspirations of the minorities, who are living tightly in another nation’s territory, are exposed to essential reinterpretation in the thesis. The author on the example of the Moldavian ASSR has showed that the ideas of autonomization, which have been fastened on by the authorities, may stimulate objectionable processes of the politicization of ethnic, which is not ready to fulfill the consolidation function. The creation of enclave of the scanty Moldavian minority in the traditionally polyethnical and multicultural region has caused several changes in cultural and linguistic policy and created negative image for ideas of «korenization».
