Dissertation appointed for the degree of candidate of historical sciences, specialty 20.02.22 - Military History. - National University of Defense of Ukraine, Kyiv, 2012. Dissertation is based on the study and analysis of archived and published documents of the 1st Ukrainian front and its armies, memoirs and scientific literature of the Proskurivska Chernivtsi-operation. Author researched this one of the largest front offensive operations of the Red Army troops in 1944. Modern historical science has accumulated a considerable array of works that illuminate issues related to military operations in Ukraine in the Great Patriotic war, but the number of works devoted directly Proskurivska-Chernivtsi remains insignificant. The author reveals conditions that affect the preparation, progress and results of operations. In March and April, 1944 forces of the 1st Ukrainian Front carried out 2 front and 16 army offensive operations. Their progress is described, the features of preparation and realization are educed, results and consequences are set, the reasons of uncompleteness of liquidation surrounded the 1-st Wermacht Panzer Army of are exposed. The contribution of the Proskurivska Chernivtsi-operation to development of military art and possibility of using it in modern military theory and practice is investigated.
