Essay

The dissertation provides a systematic understanding of the phenomenology of the armed confrontation between the USSR and Germany during the Second World War, the application of troops of the Ukrainian fronts in the offensive strategic and front operations in Ukraine in 1944 were studied and analysed. The scientific analysis included information on the Dnipro-Carpathian, Crimean, Lviv-Sandomierz, Iass-Kishiniv and Eastern-Carpathian strategic offensive operations and a number of front operations that took place in the scope of strategic operations. Elaboration of significant empirical arrays, taking into account the results of the latest research, allowed synthesizing a new conceptual vision of the course of combat actions on the territory of Ukraine. On the basis of new sources and methodological approaches, a comparison of the plans of operations, methods of implementation, the real course of events on the one hand, and real, not imaginary, results of the actions – on the other, were provided. The analysis of how the events were interpreted by historical science of different periods were provided. Manipulative technologies for the formation of historical memory of the Second World War have been discovered. The paper states that the Dnipro-Carpathian (December 24, 1943 – April 7, 1944) and Crimean (April 8–May 12, 1944) strategic operations, which were conducted in close cooperation, in terms of the number of forces and resources involved by both warring parties, spatial scale, scope, dynamism, variety of forms and methods of troops actions, the number of planned and conducted front and army operations, its results, the number of losses occupy one of the leading positions among the operations of World War II.
