Kochilkova N. State-Building’s Dilemmas of Postmodern Nations in Border Conditions

3.The object of the investigation is state-building of the state in a borderland. The aim is comprehensive understanding of the features of state-building in the process of appearance and construction of new nations and states in the borderland. The methods The investigation is carried out in an interdisciplinary field, which is caused by specific features of the epoch, and the phenomenon of borderlands, which includes the all social and cultural spaces. The theoretical results of the thesis and its novelty. First proved the connection between the conceptual map of S. Rokkan and the theory of border studies in the investigation of the imaginary geography; it has been proved border identity is the basic dilemma of state-building of none-state nations; it has been found the permanent border-crossing and re-bordering affect the «appearance» of «none- state nations». It is used the concept of «postmodern nation» for their denotation. The theoretical position of the thesis can be used for comparative analysis of the state-building’s processes, as well as to study the specific border identity in the Ukrainian society. The practical significance of the thesis. Results of the investigation can be applied to resolve the pressing problems of the present, connected with the state-building’s processes and the ethnic conflicts in different regions of the world. The obtained results can be used in the education process (special courses in social philosophy and political science), in the preparation of manuals and teaching materials.
