Essay

The thesis considers the history of charity and benefaction of the Orthodox Church in Chernihiv eparchy (the 2nd half XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century). The author has outlined and characterized the principal stages of church charity and benefaction development during the given period, revealed the main features, areas and forms of the Orthodox Church activity. The author has traced the development of parish orphanages and orthodox fellowships, defined the peculiarities of charitable trusts and the Orthodox Church institutions functioning and financing during the war and troublous times, found out the Orthodox authority's contribution to the public education in the region.
