The paper highlights the systematic pedagogical principles of preserving the national identity of higher education in Ukraine in the context of globalization and calls for entry into the European Higher Education Area: assistance in implementing the state Ukrainian language in the educational process; development of students' social sciences preparation, in particular historical, citizen studying and lawful; students' national education accenting on its components such as civil education, educating human and national values, national patriotic, rebirth of national (historic) memory and national dignity, educating honour (ethics of professional honour), intellectual creative development of a personality; forming the favorable educational environment for developing and preserving national identity of students of higher educational institutions. The conceptual apparatus of the investigated problem is revealed. The author determined the key features of national identity.
