Object: religious life in the USSR in the second half of the twentieth century.; mission: to explore the evolution of policy of the Soviet government to the Orthodox Church and its influence on the believing population of the USSR in the early 1960's - in the middle of the 1980s; methods: logical, historical, problem-chronological, comparative historical, statistical and analytical, systematical, diachronic comparison; results: analysis of the ideological and legal framework of anti-religious propaganda in the USSR, described the main components of the system of public control and power over the activities of the ROC; investigated the situation of the Orthodox Church and its reaction to the atheistic policy of the Soviet state, defined the condition of the believing population of the USSR; studied the phenomenon of coexistence of Orthodox worship with new Soviet traditions; novelty: the first studied the system of Soviet relations with the church and believing population of the USSR in the early 1960's - mid 1980s., revealed elements of the mechanism of control government and public authorities of the ROC in the analyzed period, supplemented scientific understanding of the directions of relations of the Orthodox Church with the believers in the festive ritual sphere; specialization: history of Ukraine
