Essay

Dissertation is devoted to the situation and activities of clergy of the Lviv archeparchy of the in the conditions of the forced liquidation of the Halych Greek Catholic Metropolitanate of the UGCC by the Soviet government in 1944-1950. The research is done on the historiography, sources, as well as on main reasons, methods and mechanisms of Stalin’s repressive policy towards hierarchy and clergy. The study reveals complexity of factors which allowed maintenance of the Greek Catholic ecclesiastical tradition in the USSR in the form of the «Catacomb Church».
