Dynamics of ethnic and national processes in the Right-Bank Ukraine shtetles in the beginning of the ХХ century is researched and the fact that the very ethnic component determined by the external and internal factors played the most vital role in their formation and development is found out. Shtetl merchants are proved to have had firm and diverse positions in trade area in the pre-revolutionary period, performing the role of trade negotiators between town and village.
