The object -"antiquarian movement" the history in Left-Bank Ukraine as an original and holistic phenomenon of social and cultural life in the second half of the XVIII - middle of the XIX century. The aim - the reconstruction of the overall image of Ukrainian "antiquarian movement" that arises from the analysis of the scientific heritage of its members and the existing scientific historiographical tradition devoted to them. Methods - general science (historical, logical, and classification method and the method of updating), the specific historical (problem-chronological, historical and typological, retrospective, comparative-historical and historical-genetic) and borrowed from other disciplines (biographical and prosopographic ) methods. The practical significance of the dissertation is that its main results can be used for further study of the process of formation and development of the Ukrainian historical science in the second half XVIII - middle of the XIX century, writing summarizing historical works and the development of specialized courses in high schools of historiography on this topic. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time in the historiography of Ukrainian "antiquarian movement" is considered as a separate object of study that enables us to present this as an original and holistic phenomenon of social and cultural life, expand existing ideas about its features and significance in the development of science and culture. In research basic concepts of Ukrainian "antiquarian movement" genesis, forms, directions, factors, and results of this phenomenon have been highlighted. General European context of Ukrainian "antiquarian movement" has been analyzed. Basic features of intellectual creation of Ukrainian "antiquarians" have been stated. The circle of Ukrainian "antiquarians" and their intellectual links have been highlighted. The specific character of forming private source collections has been determined. The peculiarities of using "antiquarian" collections in historic studies and their cultural and historical role have been stated for the first time in the historiography. Scope - the science of history and the learning process.
