Object: extracurricular social activities of students of higher education; рurpose: theoretical study and experimental verification of social and pedagogical conditions which ensure the effectiveness of the formation of personality in leadership in student associations; methods: analysis, synthesis, comparison, classification, comparison, generalization, learning the scientific literature, questionnaire, interview, testing, surveys, peer review method, the direct and indirect teacher observation, reflection, pedagogical experiment, statistical methods; novelty: determined theoretically substantiated and experimentally tested social and educational conditions of the leadership qualities of the individual in the activity of student associations; results: developed and put into practice the program of extracurricular formation of personality in leadership of student social organization, didactic and methodological materials for the use of innovative forms and methods of work aimed at building leadership skills of the individual in the process of students' social organization; established method for diagnosing the level of formation of personality in leadership of student associations; branch of science - social pedagogy.
