Grekov V. The Development of weapons and armours of the Warriors of South-Western Rus' of the 10th - first half of the 13th century

In the dissertation, the evolution of weapons and armours of the soldiers of South-Western Rus' is studied in the context of cultural and geographical realia shaping the military model of the region. The military model of principalities of South-Western Rus' had been developing at the frontier, dealing with two fundamentally different military science concepts - the nomadic one and the settled one. It was due to these conditions that the special (middle) way of development was chosen. It combined the cutting-edge achievements of the main three directions of interference - "the eastern", "the southern" and "the northern". The weapons and armours of the warriors of the principalities of South-Western Rus' had been adjusted gradually to mobile cavalry fight and to waging a war on two fronts. Thus, the dissertation describes historical patterns and cultural-geographical features of the development of weapons and armours of the warriors of South-Western Rus' in the 10 - the first half of the 13 century.
