Essay

Object -university functioning in Ukraine (second half of XIX century); the aim - to substantiate the stages and generalize the practice of organizational and pedagogical activity of university faculty boards in Ukraine of the second half of XIX century in order to use progressive achievements of the past in the present day reforming of the national system of higher education; methods - general scientific, chronological, historical-topological, logical-historical, problem and goal oriented, criteria-integral, comparative-historical, retro-praximetric, historical-prognostic; novelty - the research is the first to provide a comprehensive analysis of peculiarities of organizational and pedagogical activity of faculty boards in Ukraine in the given time period based on the study of social-political, social-economic and pedagogical factors; the university faculty boards organizational and pedagogical activity directions in Ukraine during the period under research have been characterized; the perspectives for the creative use of the experience of organizational and pedagogical activity of university faculty boards in Ukraine of the second half of XIX century in the present day reforming of higher education in Ukraine have been determined. The research is the first to provide an analysis of 27 unknown archival materials. The issues concerning specific aspects of domestic university organization and management structure in the second half of XIX century have acquired careful study. The definitions of the terms "faculty", "faculty board", "organizational and pedagogical activity" have been specified; results - the ideas and conclusions of the research will be essential for working out a new higher education institution management system model based on the principles of autonomy and collective self-decision making. Theoretical ideas and scientifically generalized practical experience will be valuable for teaching "Philosophy of Education", "Higher Education Institution Management", "Administrative Management in Education", "Higher Education Pedagogy", "History of Pedagogy"; field - pedagogy.
