The thesis is dedicated to studying the semiotics plane of documentary cinema, its textual features and functioning in the mass communicative space. By examples of films by O. Dovzhenko "Earth" and D. Vertov "the Man with a movie camera" discursive and methodological strategies of silent movies as theoretical bases of modern documentary film-production, creation of a criticism and journalistic discourse about author's idea is considered, attributes of Ukranian poetic cinema are analysed.
