The thesis is devoted to the comprehensive analysis of the course of life and scientific activities of the prominent Ukrainian historian, academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences Mykhail Elyseyovych Slabchenko, whose well-known figure was formed in the critical historical time under the influence of some world famous scientists. M. Slabchenko's activity as an organizer of Ukrainian education, a propagandist of the Ukrainian language in Odesa, a scientist and a theatrical figure is analyzed. It is proved that M. Slabchenko established his scientific historical school in Odesa in 1920s, which was presented by several vectors.
