Koval D. Ph.Prokopovych's cultural, educational, social and political activities

The dissertation is a comprehensive study of Ph. Prokopovych's cultural, educational and socio-political activities. The scientist's role in the development of Christian theology, education, literature and other scientific knowledge in the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is examined. The philosofer's activity as Narva and Pskov bishop and Novgorod archbishop, his reforming of Moscow Orthodox Church, the result of which was the subordination of it to the royal power and the elimination of the patriarchate is revealed. The dissertation highlights the scientist's work in creating and developing the education system, scientific knowledge and the Academy of Sciences organization in Russia. The philosopher's literary and publicistic works within the Kyiv and St. Petersburg periods and his contribution to development of Ukrainian and Russian literature of European character are analysed. Ph.Prokopovych's role in the creation and development of the state and law theory is examined, justifying the rule of the government over the church and the monarch's absolute power is examined.
