Essay

Dissertation is devoted to the systematic historical and pedagogical analysis of testing method introduction into national education at the end of XIX - the first third of the twentieth century. The development of testing method during three chronologic stages is revealed; the experience of soviet teachers applying the tests of foreign specialists in their pedagogical practice is generalized. Renewed definitions of the notions "test" and "testing" are proposed, the basic criteria and pedagogical function of the testing method are elucidated. Dissertation contains summarized, classified and systematized tests forms, clarified features of the test method applied for the professional teacher training, comparative analysis of the test characteristics during investigated and modern periods.
