Essay

The dissertation is a complex research of life, military and social activity of twice Hero of the Soviet Union colonel-general of the Ukrainian Army Vasyl Stepanovych Petrov (1922 - 2003). Based on vast source base and available historiography childhood and period of studying at Sumy Artillery School named after M.V. Frunze were reconstructed for the first time ever, as well as military life during the Great Patriotic War 1941 - 1945 was described, which started from the first minutes of the war and lasted till its final days. The dissertation also reflects the treatment period at the hospital after severe wound, which resulted into lose of two arms, and heroic acts of V. Petrov after the treatment.
