Floyd L. Linguomental Specificity of Indirect ColourNames(in the Spanish, English, Ukranian, Russian Languages)

The thesis deals with the concept of primary and secondary nominations in the aspect of colour semantics study. Within the second nomination the colour metaphor is distinguished as a meaning transfer based on similarity of two objects manifest-ing certain features. The notion “basic colour” is analysed, the nominations of basic colours are specified according to the re-sults of the experimental research. The main attention is focused on the secondary colour nominations – on the figurative meanings of the lexemes denoting colours as well as on the figurative meanings of the lexemes which do not denote colours but obtain colour semantics at the periphery. The peculiarities describing the functioning of indirect colour-components (colouratives) within phraseological units reflecting linguomental specificity of the languages are investigated. The linguostylistic analysis of the colouratives in the Russian and Ukrainian poetic speech as well as in translations from the Spanish and English languages is realized. The regularities of the realization of colouratives in symbolic functions within political discourse are traced.
