Essay

Object of the study is everyday life of workers in Kharkiv in the 1920-1930-ies. Purpose the thesis, relying on modern methods of historical science, is to describe everyday life of Kharkiv workers in the 1920-1930-ies, to examine social initiatives of the Soviet government, aimed at changing lifestyle of workers and also to determine the extent of their implementation. Methods: historico-genetic, historico-typological. Scientific novelty: everyday life of Kharkiv workers in the 1920-1930-ies was first studied in the historiography; project plan of socialist town "New Kharkiv" was reconstructed; architectural and spatial solutions, aimed at changing the practices of workers' everyday life were described; it was revealed that project of "New Kharkiv" was implemented only in general terms; features of everyday life of foreign workers, who were invited from Europe and the United States to construct Kharkiv tractor plant and "New Kharkiv" were discovered; collision / interaction of different interests and social practices of Kharkiv workers, engineers and plant administration, which took place at the level of everyday life and production activity were analysed; so-called "body techniques" of Kharkiv factory workers during industrialization were studied; budget of Kharkiv workers in the 1920-1930-ies was analyzed; typical practices of accumulation and expenditure of money were revealed; main leisure activities of Kharkiv factory workers in the 1920-1930-ies were identified; activity of the Kharkiv clubs for workers in the 1920-1930-ies as main centers of politicization of leisure was highlighted and "Soviet games" organized by propagandist to agitate workers while resting were analysed. Practical importance of the main provisions and the results of the thesis is that they can be used in the creation of generalizing works on the history of Ukraine and the Soviet Union, the history of everyday life of the Soviet period, in the preparation of textbooks, in the development of tutorials on the history of the working class and industrialization for higher education. Scope of application: higher educational institutions.
