This work outlines the participation of different actors, among them Communist party and soviet organs, cultural institutions, communities and particular activists, in the making of official politics of memory in Kharkiv region. The historical context of this process, including changes in socio-political and cultural spheres, in the attitudes towards different groups of formerly occupied population, is an important part of this study. Politics of memory is presented as materialized in particular cultural forms, such as publicist literature and fiction, commemorative rituals, paying homage to the dead, recreation of the cityscape, and museum work.
