The dissertation is devoted to the development analysis of physical education among secondary school pupils in Ukraine in 1949-1991. The paper examines the theoretical principles of physical education (the essence of the basic notions, objectives, targets and principles), classifies the investigation sources and problem historiography into groups, presents new and little-known archive documents and materials for scientific research; determines and substantiates the developmental stages of physical education among secondary school pupils in Ukraine during the mentioned period.
