Shaida N. Formation of Ukrainian National Identity through Means of Broadcasting Communication (based on 2003-2011 Materials of Culture National Ukrainian Radio Channel and Lviv Regional Radio).

The object of the study is the programs of Culture Radio, a spiritual revival channel, and of Lviv Regional Radio as social communication media. The research aims at the analysis of characteristic features of radio broadcasting operation in the context of the Ukrainian national identity formation and identification of the main ways of strengthening the impact of radio programs on the establishment of national and patriotic consciousness of Ukrainians. The study applies such methods as historical and theoretical systems analysis, method of observation and interview method, complex analytical method, descriptive, typological, comparative, biographical, structural analysis, forecasting and synthetic methods. Both positive and adverse impact of communication discourse of Ukrainian radio broadcasting on the establishment and preservation of the national identity in the age of globalization has been interpreted. Subject matter, genres and psychological focus of the information broadcast by Culture Radio and Lviv Regional Radio were analysed in terms of completeness, accuracy, positive and negative emotion-evoking power, impact-evoking power; common and distinctive features of presenting radio programs were discussed. The results of the comprehensive research show that fundamental components of the Ukrainian national identity formation is the language, culture, history, customs and traditions. It has been proved that the most efficient radio program is the one which organically combines regional, national and universal values aimed at creation of stabilizing moral and spiritual basis for the establishment of nation-centred outlook and active citizenship.
