Essay

The thesis researches incomplete paradigms of finite verbs forms, which is a topical problem in modern linguistics. The thesis analyses the main types of grammatical lacunas that are identified in explanatory and grammatical dictionaries, as well as the ways of fixing them. The thesis argues the necessity to isolate two main paradigm types with "empty cells": defective and cognitive-communicational appropriate. The thesis distributes verbs with grammatical lacunas along these paradigms and identifies frequency of each type. It demonstrates the connection between communicational necessity of using certain forms and transformational process of norms of modern Russian formal language. The thesis suggests a system of indications to define grammatical lacunas of each type.
