Essay

Object: Manifestation patterns of morphological, biological and economic traits of soybean samples for use for grain and green mass. Objective: To establish a breeding value of soybean source material by defining formation peculiarities of economic features of green mass of soybean varieties for use for grain and green mass in the Eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Methods: Field, laboratory and statistical. Novelty: consists in solving an important scientific task of establishing value of soybean source material by defining formation peculiarities of economic features in collection samples for use for grain and green mass, grouping them in special collections, creating source material for breeding soybean varieties for use for grain and green mass. Results: Variability of morphological traits depending on the weather conditions was established during the study years. It was proved that the yield of soybean green mass had the most significant positive dependence on ramulus and bean weight, leaf weight and number. Breeding value of soybean varieties in terms of green mass quality (protein, ash, fiber) was determined, and influence of weather factors on the level of their variability was established. Valuable sources for creating soybean varieties for use for grain and green mass were identified. A special trait collection of soybean for use for green mass was formed and registered in the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine. Two reference samples registered in NCPGRU: Felado N1 (Hungary) and OP 05X (Canada) were identified; their inclusion in the breeding process will contribute to the effective assessment of existing material and creation of new soybean breeding material. Two lines (L 287/10 and L 289/10) for use for grain and green mass were created by individual selection from the Ukrainian sample KC 5. Degree of Implementation: Five Scientific Development Implementation Certificates were received; three of them were for the special soybean collection for use for grain and green mass, which is used in breeding work when performing scientific tasks in the research institutions: the Plant Production Institute nd. a V.Ya. Yuryev NAAS, Bukovinian State Agricultural Experiment Station NAAS and the Institute of Feed and Agriculture of Podillya NAAS; two of them were for the generated lines (L 287/10 and L 289/10), which were transferred to the Laboratory of Soybean and Legumes Breeding of the Institute Feed and Agriculture of Podillya NAAS and to the Laboratory of Soybean Breeding of the Plant Production Institute nd. a V.Ya. Yuryev NAAS and included in the breeding process. Based on the generated lines a variety was created, which is planned to submit to registration to the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine in 2014.
