Object -the process of children's upbringing in families during the second part of XIX - the early XX century; theaim-to systematize theoretical data and characterize the practice of organization of children's aesthetic upbringing in families in the history of domestic pedagogics of the second part of XIX - the early XX century ; methods -general scientific, chronological,structural-genetic, comparative, prognostic; novelty -the dissertation is the first to provide a comprehensive analysis of the issues concerning organization of aesthetic upbringing in families in domestic pedagogy of the second part of XIX - the early XX century; the stages in the development of the idea of aesthetic upbringing of children in families during the period under research have been elaborated; the practice of organization of aesthetic upbringing of children during the given period is generalized; the forms and methods of aesthetic upbringing in families have been characterized; the main directions of cooperation between public institutions and parents directed at their readiness for aesthetic upbringing of children in families in present day Ukraine have been suggested; the ideas of the educators of the past on cognitive-educational and morality forming functions of aesthetic upbringing of personalityin a family have been analysed and specified; the efficient elements of aesthetic upbringing in families that are of prominent importance for forming aesthetic consciousness and one's activity have been determined; results -the research brings back the pedagogical ideas of the past on the problem of aesthetic upbringing in families allowing for enhancing this process in the current situation. On the basis of the research data and conclusions the author has worked out the optional teaching course on "Aesthetic Upbringing in Familiesas a Means of Forming a Child's Personality". The new archival materials and data (28), some unknown earlier facts and ideas deepening the understanding and enriching the existing knowledge on the essence, components and methods of aesthetic upbringing of children have been introduced for further analysis; field - pedagogy.
