Essay

In the thesis author presents generalized theoretic and new approach for determination of important and urgent tasks that were manifested in content and sphere of scientific and managerial activity of V. N. Karazin (1773–1842), who was educational, cultural and public figure, also known as scientist and inventor and was a representative of educational movement in the first half of ХІХ century. The author reveals content (e.g. dissemination of educational ideas among society, the importance of education and upbringing; the problem of maternal upbringing and educational level of woman as a key to the children’s education; providing of children’s education by the Ukrainian teachers; the vitality of higher education) and sphere of scientific and managerial activity of V. N. Karazin in the context of development of higher and national education in the end of ХVІІІ – first half of ХІХ century. His activities include public, scientific, educational, cultural, editorial, managerial and philanthropic work. The author determines the main factors that define the formation of V. N. Karazin as personality and the conception of his world (national, patriotic, cultural, educational, scientific). The author improves scientific conception of dates, months, reasons for arrest and positions of V. N. Karazin in the time of his managerial, educational and scientific work. The author specifies periodization of Karazin’s formation as educator, public activist and scientist. Less known and unknown archives documents, materials and historical facts gives the possibility to deep the knowledge about educational and managerial activity of V. N. Karazin and introduce them to the scientific turnover.
