Object -the teaching and educational process organization at the universities of Ukraine during the second part of XIX - the early XX century; theaim-to reveal the organizational and theoretical issues and generalize the practical data on the Student Affairs Board activity at the universities of Ukraine during the second part of XIX - the early XX century in order to implement the progressive achievements of the past in present day teaching process; methods -general scientific, historical-structural, of historical genesis, historical-diachronic, historical-comparative, retro-proximatic, historical-prognostic; novelty -the research is the first to provide a comprehensive analysis of the content and directions of activities of the Student Affairs Boardat the universities of Ukraine; the historiographic data on the problem have been studied; the sources of the establishment of the Student Affairs Board, the stages and tendencies in the development of the institution and its activities at the universities of Ukraine during the second part of XIX - the early XX century have been determined; the practical data concerning the activities of the Student Affairs Board at the universities of Ukraine during the second part of XIX - the early XX century have been generalized; the perspectives of creative implementation of the efficient achievements of the past concerning the problem of the research at the present day stage of reforms in higher education in Ukraine have been elaborated; the ideas dealing with the establishment of the legal status of the student youth within the period under research have acquired further study; the obligations and functions of officials and structural units at universities of the researched period have been specified; results -the materials of the research provide a new scientifically justified objective interpretation of the activities of the Student Affairs Board during the second part of XIX - the early XX century and suggest ideas for enhancingthe quality of educational work at higher educational establishments. The new archival documents (41), specific facts and ideas increasing the factual knowledge about the structure, functions and directions of activities of the Student Affairs Board are offered for scientific study. The results of the research will be helpful to scholars who take a keen interest in the development of university education in Ukraine; field - pedagogy.
