Essay

For the first time in the Ukrainian literature science, historical and literary study of tetralogy of Stanislaw Vincenz "On a high mountain valley" in comparative, genealogic and poetological aspects was done. The paper examines the literary and critical reception of the works of S. Vincenz in Polish and Ukrainian literature. It was noted that scholars of Polish writer were attracted by three problems: identification of tetralogy genre, the question of artistic morphology and dialogism as well as Hutsul world view. The thesis also presents the epic "On a high mountain valley" in the context of literary topos of the Hutsul region. Particular attention was paid to the poetics of the work: tetralogy was investigated in genealogic, naratological, chronotypical, myth-critical and cultural aspects. Observations on the specificity of narrative instance configuration make it possible to note that in the book the narrator is the one who appears in two different functions. Hutsul culture in Vincenz tetralogy, poetics, the elements of laughter and carnival traditions and folk art genre system was analyzed.
