Essay

The thesis focuses on the study of rendering everyday life realia as major indicators of national mythological reality in I. Kotlyarevskyi’s poem "Aeneid" by means of a foreign language. It is based on the English, German and Polish translations by B. Melnyk, I. Kachanyuk-Spiekh and P. Kuprys and two Russian translations by I. Brazhnin and V. Potapova. The paper presents a review of the basic linguocultural theoretical principles and their development within the theory of translation. It highlights the methodology of translation analysis in the field of culture-specific items. Еveryday life realia of the poem were selected in accordance with three thematic groups (TG): "traditional drinks", "traditional food" and "traditional clothes". The dominant ways of translating everyday realia are established at the level of the whole text, which allows for the definition of the basic strategies.
