The dissertation research proved the concept of the role of the national mentality in the development of civil society in modern Ukraine. This paper analyzes the main features of the Ukrainian nation and the specificity of their formation in the historical and cultural environment in the transformation of the ethnic nation. On the basis of designated national signs the category of "national mentality" and study the main constituent elements of the national mentality. The ways of transformation features of national mentality of Ukrainians in the values of civil society. Changing features of national mentality entails changing values of civil society, that factor in its development in modern Ukraine.
