Essay

Subordination problems of Ruthenian Church to Roman Pope troubled Ukrainian-Belarusian society of late 16th - beginning of the 17th centuries very deeply. Penetration of religion into all spheres of human's and public life characteristic to medieval and early modern consciousness at the end of the 16th - beginning of the 17th centuries became an important precondition for formation of close connection of Orthodoxy and so-called Ruthenian people (Ukrainian-Byelorussian population of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) in public thought. This process was also stimulated by the fact of joint residence in one state of orthodox Ruthenians with Polish and Lithuanian Catholics.
