Essay

Dissertation is the first complex research of Odesa inhabitants everyday life during the First World War. It is based on the analysis of historiographical scientists’ heritage, and a vast complex of sources. The investigation characterizes conditions of work, fuel crisis, prices for food, prohibition in Odesa. The conditions of life of such social groups as refugees, soldiers and their families are also examined. The author has explored charity activity of different organizations, church, inhabitants of the city. The evolution of public moods of Odesa population during the war is analyzed. The main factors of forming of public opinion was propaganda, censorship and rumors. Authorities formed the image of the enemy in Odesa using newspapers, cinema, popular literature etc. The structure and development of criminality in Odesa is also examined.
