Essay

The research views simile as a category of Translation Studies. The paper is carried out within a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach. It involves the system-and-structural along with the cognitive-and-discursive paradigm of researching a lingual and speech unit. The methodology of researching simile suggested in the paper is based on linguoconceptology and linguocultural studies principles, since man is the subject to perceive the outer world and an indispensable creative part of the culture. Ethnolingual peculiarities of simile are revealed in the process of the ethnic specific nuances of the worldview and world perception analysis. These nuances make up the conceptual basis of national lingual pictures of the world. Concepts are verbalized through a variety of lingual means, ranging from lexical, idiomatic and paremiological units to precedent texts. Thuswise, simile is considered a distinctive ethnocultural structural-and-cognitive complex whose elements are revealed on all lingual levels and manifested in cultural-and-specific senses actualized in the discourse.
