Essay

The thesis presents a theoretical synthesis and a new solution to the important and topical problem consisting in the contents disclosure and the aiming of Pavlo Hnatovych Zhytetsky's enlightening activity at reproduction and actualization of the national pedagogical thought development in the second half of the 19th - early 20th century in Ukraine. The main factors that influenced the formation of P. Zhytetsky's outlook beliefs and life values (socio-political; family education; educational; socio-cultural; research and educational) have been defined on the basis of the all-round retrospective analysis of the problem; the main stages of pedagogical and enlightening activity of the pedagogue within the Ukrainian national enlightening movement during the second half of the 19th century - the early 20th century have been grounded; general pedagogical views and ideas in P. Zhytetsky's creative legacy have been revealed. Scientific ideas of dates, places, causes of P. Zhytetsky's transfers during his work as a teacher and a lecturer have been improved; the stages of P. Zhytetsky's becoming an enlightener, a social activist and a scientist have been specified. Little known and previously unknown archival documents have been introduced into the scientific usage. It gave the possibility to broaden knowledge of P. Zhytetsky's pedagogical and enlightening activity.
