Essay

The thesis presents theoretical generalization and new approach to an important and urgent task, which aims at identifying organizational and pedagogical principles of elite schools functioning in Great Britain (XIX - early XX century). It covers the theoretical bases of research and its application aspects and defines elite schools as centres of political, scientific, cultural and educational life of Great Britain. The stages of British elite school development in the XIX - early XX century have been defined as: 1820-1840 - the stage of protests at elite schools; 1820-1840 - the stage of internal changes; 1840-1860 - the stage of opening new elite schools; 1861-1870 - the stage of reforming elite schools; 1870-1930 - the stage of proliferation; 1930-1944 - the stage of being under threat of closing down. Organizational and pedagogical principles of its operation have been outlined. The role of elite education has been shown against the social and political background of the defined period. Unknown archive documents were found, translated and introduced during the research period.
