Essay

This paper presents for the first time a comprehensive study of the history and genealogy of the noble family of Tumansky, who are descended from the Cossack starshyna, and elucidates the role of its members in the history of Ukraine from the late 17th to early 20th centuries. Based on a wide range of archival sources, many of which were for the first time put into scholarly circulation, the author has made significant additions to the Tumansky pedigree, has investigated the participation of members of the family in social and political life, and has also elucidated their contribution to the development of national science and culture.
