Object - the educational process at pedagogical universities; the aim - to find out the influence of the developed and theoretically substantiated system of general cultural training of students at pedagogical universities on the level of their general culture development; methods - theoretical, empirical, statistical; novelty - the research is the first to theoretically substantiate and experimentally test the system of general cultural training of future teachers in the educational process at pedagogical universities, the system is directed towards the realization of the idea of forming the "person of culture"; the notion "general culture of future teacher" has been specified as a firm inner personal formation consisting of the complex of socially and professionally valuable characteristics; the essence of general cultural training has been determined as a complex systematic process of goal-oriented, purposefully organized interaction of academics and students during class and out-of-class activities and during pedagogical practice directed at forming in a future teacher the system of cultural knowledge, skills and habits determining their readiness to start pedagogical activity according to the culture-based approach; the aspects of the influence of sociocultural and psychological-pedagogical prerequisites on general cultural training of future teachers have undergone further investigation; results - the developed and theoretically substantiated system of general cultural training of students in the educational process at pedagogical universities has been experimentally tested and is recommended for the implementation in institutions of higher education. The theoretical ideas and practical data and recommendations will be helpful to academics for the improvement of the teaching process at institutions of higher pedagogical education, in the system of professional development of teachers and for compiling textbooks and teaching manuals. The materials of the research will be helpful to undergraduates and Master degree students for writing theses, course paper, diploma and Master degree papers; field - pedagogy.
