Essay

The paper reveals the content and peculiarities of non-formal education in today's educational space. There have been examined the context-theoretical approaches to the development of adult education in Germany. Socio-political, socio-economic preconditions of the non-formal education formation in European countries have been analyzed; the peculiarities of this educational trajectory in Federative Republic of Germany have been identified and their development trends have been substantiated. There has been generalized the theoretical and practical experience in organizing folk universities. The socio-political role and the activity of folk universities have been revealed and analyzed in the paper.
