The dissertation is devoted to the analysis of the development of social science education in schools of Ukraine during 50 - 80s of the ХХ-th century. The theoretical ideas of school social science education have been systematized, the stages of its development are distinguished on the basis of certain criteria and the distinctive features, typical for the investigated period, are exposed in this scientific work. The changes in the curriculum of school social science education; factors, that influenced the improvement of the programs and the input of new social science subjects have been defined and characterized; the experience in the organization of school social science education of the investigated period has been scientifically generalized.
