Essay

The thesis is devoted to the identification of the theoretical principles that govern informal logic and rhetorical argumentation as well as to the establishment and justification of an idea that both approaches are moving towards integration of their methods and tools for the analysis of argumentation. The research instigates with historic analyses of the preconditions and key features of the argumentative turn in logic in the second half of the 20th century that is described as a foundation of the modern argumentation theory. Based on the scope of theoretical issues that have evolved because of argumentative turn, the research outlines main concepts of the argumentation theory and defines key theoretical approaches that exist today. Special attention is dedicated to the evolution of ideas and main methodological guidelines of Informal Logic and Rhetorical Argumentation as two approaches that developed separately however over the past decade have come to quarters.
