The interpretation of the term "bilingual education" is exposed and its essential characteristics are definedб the school bilingual education main functions in the modern society of the United Kingdom are determined. The historical sources, the regional peculiarities, the social and cultural context of UK bilingual education of the second half of the XX - XXI century are characterized. The leading forms of bilingual education, the main types of schools and the bilingual education basic models are distinguished, the possibilities of using the positive British experience in Ukraine are outlined.
