Essay

This thesis is dedicated to the investigation of a contemporary Bulgarian fantastic literature in the aspects of its genesis, genre modifications and poetics. The contemporary Bulgarian fantastic literature, considering the particularities of its development and functioning is treated as metagenre that is represented in three subgroups as well as on the corresponding levels (fantastic literature, science fiction, fantasy). The marking of the two descriptive groups - formal fiction and final fiction is methodologically motivated. The research is devoted to the works of the second group (final fiction), although the main features and types of development of the formal fiction are also pointed out. Main stages of the development of the Bulgarian fantastic literature (from fairy tale to postmodern fiction) are outlined considering its folklore and mythological tradition. Originating from myth and fairy tale, it is revealed in diabolizm, science fiction parodies, utopian and anti-utopian literature of the 20-30-ies of the XX century (G. Iliev,S. Minkov, V. Polyanov) and science fiction of the 60-80-ies of the XX century (works by P. Vezhinov, A. Gerov, L. Dilov, E. Manov, A. Novakovski). The numerous genres activated in the 60-ies - utopia and fantastic intellectual adventure prose, philosophical science fiction, and in the 70-ies - science fiction with humor and satire (L. Dilov, E. Manov), fantastic realism (P. Vezhinov, J. Radichkov, D. Asenov, D. Korudzhiyev,G. Aleksiev), fantastic symbolism (P. Vezhinov, D. Asenov, G. Markovski, D. Korudzhiyev), folklore fiction (J. Radichkov, J. Vylchev, G. Aleksiev), fantastic grotesque and game (J. Radichkov, I. Petrov). The works of the fiction writers of the 60-80 make it possible to conclude that the science fiction of the second half of the XX century is similar to the postmodern literature, particularly because of usage of game, presence of folk, carnival, diabolic elements, synthesis of formal and final fiction, formation of a new type of hero, genre diffusion, irony, paradox etc.
